Shanks as a red Leader
The ST-23 Leader is Shanks. Once per turn, when your opponent attacks, an opposing Leader or Character loses 1000 power for the turn.
That is an unusual profile for red, a colour normally built for offence only. The reduction turns a failed block into a successful one, and on your own turn it lets you shrink a target before you swing at it.
Among the new cards, Shanks arrives as a Super Rare with 10 000 power for a cost of 9, and Uta completes the pair. The rest of the deck leans on the Red-Haired crew, with Ben Beckman, Yasopp and Lucky Roux.
Complete effect texts can be read on the card pages linked from here.
How it plays
ST-23 is a red midrange deck, more balanced than pure aggro. It keeps up steady pressure but retains, through the Leader, an answer during your opponent's turn, which lets it survive exchanges that would sink a faster build.
Tempo is still its main strength: land solid Characters, force blocks, close with the deck's larger cards.
Who it is for
ST-23 works for a first game. It teaches power maths, which sits at the centre of the game, by making it visible: the Leader changes that calculation every turn.
Established players pick it up for the new Red-Haired cards, an archetype with a lasting competitive presence.
Beginners Deck Party
Local game stores ran the Beginners Deck Party alongside the wave. Players had to bring one of the six ST-23 to ST-28 decks straight out of the box, and two card tiers were handed out, one for turning up and one for winning, in six versions each.
Tournament legality
ST-23 cards are legal in official tournaments seven days after the release date in your region, and playable from the pre-release date at participating local game stores.
Collecting, rarity and market
Starter deck cards carry their deck's code (ST23-001, ST23-002 and so on) and are partly reprints. Single values stay modest apart from the new cards, whose prices depend on how far they are adopted in competitive play.
Values are broken out card by card. They follow the market and hinge above all on rarity, condition and demand.
